FSU continued a string of frustrating proposals during our 9th bargaining session, held on Thursday, July 26. At the session, GAU stressed that the university needed to move closer to the level of pay and benefits proposed by GAU.
FSU struck our proposal waiving all tuition and some fees. In response, we pointed out that this was an important issue for us. In particular, we emphasized that FSU needed to fix the problem of some departments requiring that international and out-of-state students pay tuition.
“FSU claims it wants to improve its ranking and prioritize research, all while recruiting and retaining the best and brightest. Yet the university has repeatedly offered substandard pay and benefits to graduate assistants, who conduct important research and teach around 30 percent of FSU’s undergraduate courses.”
